Some people would really like to change their dog over to a raw diet, but worry about handling raw dog food.   In a nutshell, if you follow the same rules as when you handle your own meat and fish when cooking, you’ll be just fine.

We’ve compiled a list of basic recommendations to follow when handling raw pet food to provide you with some reassurance and simplify the transition to a raw food diet for your dog.

All raw dog food should be stored in the freezer until it’s needed.

Our pre-weighed portions mean you don’t need to store any food in the fridge with your human food.  Just pop out the portions into the dog bowl to defrost.  Remember to wash your hands with soap and hot water after handling raw food, just like you would while preparing and cooking your own meals.

Remember to clean and disinfect any raw food-contact surfaces and utensils.

Whether it’s your pet’s bowl, or the fork you used to mash the meat with.   Even if you plan to use it the next day, it’s critical to clean everything as soon as it’s no longer in use.

You’ll be able to keep surfaces clean and clear of possibly hazardous microorganisms by doing so.

Any left over raw pet food can be stored in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 3 days.

One of the benefits of our portions is that you can often avoid having to store any leftovers in the fridge at all.  If for some reason you have to, place in a sealed container and keep on a low shelf in the fridge.

My kids will want to get involved.

Yes children can be inquisitive and it’s really good for them to take part in the caring of their dogs, it’s such an important part of owning a pet.  Just make sure you immediately encourage them to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water just as you would with raw human meat and fish if they were helping you cook your meals.

If you have any further concerns, or worries about raw feeding, we are here to help and support you.

All we wish for is happy healthy dogs and happy relaxed owners.
